Website Cost in India (2026): A Real Price Breakdown

Ask five people what a website costs in India and you’ll get five answers — ₹3,000, ₹15,000, ₹50,000, “depends”, and “I know a guy”.

They’re all a little bit right. A website is like a house: a one-room studio and a three-storey bungalow are both “houses”, but nobody expects them to cost the same.

This guide breaks down what each budget actually gets you in 2026, what drives the price up or down, and the running costs most people forget to plan for.

The Short Answer

Here are typical price ranges for a professionally built website in India. They vary by city, by who builds it and by how much is custom — treat them as a guide, not a rate card.

Type of websiteTypical cost in IndiaTypical timeline
Single landing page₹5,000 – ₹20,0003–7 days
Small business website (5–8 pages)₹10,000 – ₹40,0001–3 weeks
Business website with blog / CMS (10–20 pages)₹20,000 – ₹80,0002–5 weeks
Online store (Shopify or custom)₹10,000 – ₹1,50,0001–6 weeks
Fully custom design and development₹40,000 – ₹3,00,0003–10 weeks
Web app / booking platform / portal₹80,000 – ₹10,00,000+6–16 weeks

If someone quotes far below these ranges, ask what’s missing. If someone quotes far above, ask what’s included. Both questions are fair.

What Actually Drives the Price

1. Number of pages

Every page needs design, content, development and testing. A 5-page site (Home, About, Services, Gallery, Contact) is a very different job from a 40-page site with a page for every service and location.

2. Template or custom design

A template is a ready-made design adjusted with your logo, colours and content. It’s quicker and cheaper.

A custom design is planned and designed from scratch around your business and customers — usually in Figma first, then built. It costs more, but it looks like you, not like a thousand other sites using the same theme.

3. Features

This is where budgets usually grow. Each of these adds time:

  • Online booking or appointment scheduling
  • Payments (Razorpay, Stripe, UPI)
  • A CMS or blog your team can edit
  • Customer logins and dashboards
  • Multi-language content
  • Integrations with a CRM, WhatsApp or accounting software

4. Content

Who writes the text and supplies the photos? If you provide finished content, the project moves faster and costs less. Professional copywriting and photography are worth paying for — but budget for them separately.

5. Technology

  • WordPress — huge ecosystem of themes and plugins; good for content-heavy sites.
  • Shopify — the quickest reliable way to launch an online store.
  • Next.js / React — fast, secure and great for SEO and custom features; usually a bit more to build, less to maintain.

We compare two of these in detail in Next.js vs WordPress for business websites.

6. Who builds it

Freelancers are usually the cheapest. Studios and agencies cost more because you get a team — design, development, testing, SEO and project management — and someone accountable if a person leaves. Our post on freelancer vs agency goes deeper.

The Running Costs Nobody Mentions

The build is a one-time cost. These come every year:

  • Domain name — roughly ₹700 to ₹1,500 a year for a .in or .com, depending on the registrar. Watch out for cheap first-year offers with expensive renewals.
  • Hosting — modern sites built with Next.js can often run on free or low-cost plans (Vercel, Netlify). Shared WordPress hosting typically costs a few thousand rupees a year; VPS hosting more.
  • Business email — Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 cost a few hundred rupees per user per month.
  • Shopify plan — if you run a store, Shopify’s monthly subscription is paid directly to Shopify.
  • Maintenance — updates, backups, security and small changes. Many businesses pay a small monthly fee rather than fixing things in a panic later.
  • Marketing — a website without SEO, ads or social media is a shop on an empty street.

A realistic first-year budget is the build cost plus 10–25% for these extras.

How to Spend Less Without Regretting It

  • Start smaller. Launch with the pages that matter, then add more as you learn what customers look for.
  • Prepare your content early. Text, photos and logos ready on day one can save a week.
  • Skip features you don’t need yet. A WhatsApp button often beats a complex booking system in the first year.
  • Don’t cut the invisible things. Mobile design, speed, basic SEO and security are cheap to build in and expensive to add later.

Red Flags in a Website Quote

  • No mention of who owns the code, domain and hosting after launch (the answer should be: you).
  • Hosting and domain registered in the developer’s name.
  • No SSL certificate (the padlock) included.
  • “Unlimited revisions” with no written scope — usually a sign that nothing is defined.
  • 100% payment upfront for a large project.

The Bottom Line

A good small-business website in India costs ₹10,000 to ₹40,000 in 2026. A custom website or online store sits higher, and web apps are a different category altogether.

The cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest website. The right one loads fast, shows up on Google, makes it easy to contact you — and is fully yours.
